Underwater Fine Art Maternity Portraits: Susanna {Forest Grove, OR}

When I take on Fine Art Maternity Portrait Commissions, I don’t just photograph a pregnant belly.

As with most of my commissions, my driving force is to create artwork. To create it out of the women who trust me to photograph them. And to do it in a way that allows them to just be. In the hurried chaos that is life for so many of us, pregnancy can fly by so quickly that we don’t even feel like we get a chance to just breathe, take a moment, and exhale.

Susanna contacted me back in 2018 when I was just experimenting with underwater photography. She is a photographer herself who found me on Instagram, had seen some of my other underwater work from 2017, and wanted an underwater maternity session. I remember she was in the middle of an especially busy season with her photography business and just wanted an excuse to get away and have a spa day. I had just recently purchased a gopro and so we decided to make a day of it. I could not have been more thrilled with what we created together all on that little gopro in a saltwater spa at a McMennamins in Forest Grove, OR! (See the very last image below for a pull back of the location we were shooting in.)

These images are an example that it’s really not the equipment that makes art. However, I am excited because I have Outex underwater housing, a 16’ round above ground pool (hopefully going up by the end of June or sooner!), and can now officially use my professional camera for underwater sessions. Eeeep!

My summer schedule gets pretty packed, so if you’re thinking about an underwater commission, now is the time to book so you can lock in non-peak rates. Contact me for a no-obligation 30 minute chat (in-person or virtual) to get all your questions answered about what a commission like this would look like for you.
