I am a firm believer in Community Over Competition

Hi! I’m glad you’re here and I’m looking forward to connecting with you.

From day one of my journey with a camera it has been important for me to be connected to the community. There are three main ways in which I’ve found the most joy interacting with others in the photography community and you can read about them below. Hopefully you can figure out which works best for you. Maybe one, two, or all three!

mentoring & Education

I am honored by all the requests for mentoring that I have gotten over the years. There are currently two ways which work the best for me and my personality for connecting with fellow photographers.

Mentoring Sessions

Pricing for mentoring sessions is the same as any client I would take on for Fine Art Portrait Photography. I will photograph you as I would a client but as we work together you will get an inside peak into how and why I’m doing what I’m doing. At the end you’ll be rewarded with not only what you’ve learned but you’ll also have permanent physical Fine Art Portraits of yourself to remember the experience.

Course with Unraveled Academy

The Unraveled Academy is a subscription based online education platform for creatives of all kinds. I put my heart and soul into this course, it’s loaded with tons of real meaty content to help you discover your own unique contribution to this world of art and photography.

Photography Meetups

Want to experience the photography community in the Portland, OR or Vancouver, WA area? My goal is for photographers of all skill levels and genres, to experience what Community Over Competition actually means. Opening pathways for people to grow their craft by interacting with each other over our common love of photography. No ego. No cost. Come one, come all.

The Traveling Dress Collective

1 Dress. 7 Photographers. A Trip Around the World. Early in 2016 an amazing idea brought several photographers together in a project amply dubbed The Traveling Dress Project. As creatives, each photographer was fascinated with one another’s different points of view, so they decided to see what would happen if each of them had the opportunity to use the exact same dress to make their unique visions come to life.

5 Acre Property + Studio Rental

Since moving onto five acres I have been busy gardening and curating photography opportunities and scenes on our property. In 2023 I opened it up to other local photographers to use it with their clients as well. The space is just too lovely to keep it all to myself. Conveniently located between Salmon Creek and Battle Ground, Washington with quick assess to I-205 and I5.

Multiple Non models

The best way to learn how to photograph everyday people is by learning how to direct people who aren't professional models. The second best way, is by having variety. Approximately 5 subjects volunteer their time to pose at each meetup.

Small Group Sizes

By breaking into small groups of approximately 5-8 photographers on site, we all have an opportunity to photograph the subject without elbowing anyone. Introverts are welcome.

Teacher & Learner

We all have something to learn and to contribute. There is no special speaker or instructor at these meetups. We are all both the teacher and the learner.

Take the road less traveled

The photography community can be a dog-eat-dog world. That. Really. Sucks. But the truth is that, unless we make a decision to be the change we want to see, it will continue to be a hostile place for aspiring, new, and even seasoned photographers. Come join like-minded photographers who want to change the photography world into an inviting place; one meetup at a time.

model call list

There are a couple ways in which I utilize this model call list. From Photographer Meetup events to one-on-one shoots with me. When inspiration strikes, it's nice to have a list of regular, everyday people, without professional modeling experience, who aren't expecting anything in return, and who I can call up on a moment's notice. If you are willing to sign a model release giving me permission to sell/distribute the images resulting from the shoot, you’re welcome to add yourself to this list!

Photographer Meetup events

If you're reading this and would love to feel like you have the paparazzi chasing you around for a few hours, no matter the photographer’s skill level, then a photographer meetup event is likely for you!

One-on-One with me

Sometimes I wake in the middle of the night, or when I’m daydreaming in the school pick up line with an idea for a photography project. Sometimes it’s a woman traipsing barefoot around a forest in a beautiful dress, others someone with long hair underwater, or even a person lying in a field surrounded by amazing wildflowers.

Our 2024 Team

2 Days of Education and Shooting

We prioritize fostering collaboration and community over competition in the photography industry. We embrace diversity, see fellow photographers as allies, and actively engage in networking and mentorship to create a supportive environment for all. Together in 2024, Teresa, Julie, Kristey, Summer, and Beth form an exceptional team that brings together a wealth of experience, innovation, and dedication, ensuring that this event continues to set a standard of excellence in the industry.

Teresa Vick has historically been the driving force behind this event. Her unwavering dedication to creating an exceptional experience for both volunteer models and photographers, has set a high bar for similar meetup events. With her Fine Art Portrait styling vision, care for volunteer models, and desire to connect with other creatives around a passion for creative photography, Teresa continues to invite other photographers to contribute and make this event even better year after year.

Julie Godbolt and Kristey Fritz-Martin have shared Teresa's passion for this event from the very beginning in 2019 when we hosted our first Escape to the Coast. As co-coordinators, they bring a wealth of experience, creativity, and a commitment to ensuring every photographer feels welcome and able to fully participate. Their passion for creating ways to inspire people in their creative and artistic sides for attendees is such a gift.

New to the schedule in 2024, Summer Hughes is bringing a fresh perspective on environmental portraits on-location in Astoria, OR. Summer has attended every Escape to the Coast over the years and is guaranteed to elevate the event's educational component. Her approach to on-location shooting and interactive teaching style are sure to captivate participants and leave a lasting impact.

Behind the scenes and also a new addition in 2024, Beth Olson has worked tirelessly to ensure that every administrative detail is taken care of with precision and expertise. Her meticulous planning and organizational skills have blown our minds this year! From logistics to participant registrations, Beth's contribution is indispensable.

FAQ

  • We’ve priced the tickets in order to prioritize accessibility for people of all budgets, including hobbyists and professionals alike. You will need to arrange lodging and food on your own.

  • Yes! Teresa Vick and the team coordinate all the wardrobe details in collaboration with volunteer models based on Teresa’s design style for her Fine Art Portrait sessions. While Teresa does prefer more neutral tones in general, at the beach location, if possible if a pop of color can be incorporated, she will jump on it.

  • We try and acquire everyday people to pose. This is purposefully done in an attempt to make these meetups oportunities to practice posing everyday people who may one day become clients for some of you. I have nothing against professional or aspiring models, the difference however, in having non-professional/aspiring models posing at these events, is that as a photographer, you will be gaining real-life experience in working with people who are not trained in posing or figuring out their own flattering angles, etc. These meetups are about growth in more than one way.

  • Absolutely! Please fill out the model call form and submit by March 2024 at the latest.

  • Unlike other styled meetups, we maintain a subject to photographer ratio of 1 to 5 by breaking attendees into smaller groups and not just 1 subject but multiple volunteer models per group shootout event. Every photographer will have an opportunity to photograph at least two of the volunteer subjects but not all of them in the official time-frame we have set. Please stay with your assigned group/model. We are doing shifts and randomizing groups with the models because otherwise photographers tend to show "model favoritism" which doesn’t feel good when you’re the one model not being photographed and also, when all photographers clamor to photograph one model, it’s difficult for photographers to find the space (of mind and space) to make the most of their group time with the model.
