Embrace the imperfections - It's where the art happens | Fine Art Portraits by Teresa Vick {Silver Star Acres, Vancouver, WA}

“The more you try and perfect it, the worse it gets. You’ve just gotta go with it. Let it be messy.” -Honey & Comb

Sitting in the hairdresser’s chair when she said this to me about how to curl my hair, it dawned on me… this is the same belief I hold about my art and why it feels so different from other photographers out there.

When I make art, I make you move… in moving things are messy.

You can’t perfect it. If you tried to perfect things, it only makes them feel worse… like they aren’t alive. And not real. It’s the imperfections created in movement that brings the magic. And it feels real, because we intuitively know that is how life is. It feels authentic. It feels different because we are all so used to seeing perfected imagery of women in the media. You know what can be made perfect? Objects.

We are not objects. We live. We breath. And we move.

It’s in our moving and living and breathing that art is born.
