Indoor Studio Fine Art Portrait Photography: Dani {Vancouver, WA}

It’s amazing to me how very different each one of my Fine Art Portrait sessions are, while simultaneously having some very key elements always present. Movement, strength, femininity, boldness. All somehow wrapped up in the myriad of angles, timeliness lighting, and unique compositions. What’s so unique about Fine Art Portrait sessions with me is that I don’t strive for perfection; blurry is not an immediate cull. I don’t try and capture eyes looking at the camera in any particular way. I want to relax and play. I want to answer the question “what would it look like if…” and then we get weird and try things we don’t even know if they will work out or not.

I see her being loving and gentle, soft and bold.

For this session we created a few broad ideas. I wanted to photograph in a new blue tulle robe I had just purchased and Dani, while also up for anything, had hoped to get some in the burlap bag that she had seen me use in some of my self-portrait work. With a blue tulle robe, a burlap bag, a black tank top, and a white tee, we were able to achieve a diverse set of images. Wardrobe doesn’t have to be complicated and this is the perfect example of that.

It’s so refreshing and inspiring to see myself in ways I don’t get to in every day life. Like when do I ever see my hands, so soft and delicate, and my hair flying wild and free, wrapping me up. I see me, but, in third person? I see her being loving and gentle, soft and bold. I see her loving herself, which I’m desperately trying to do. I’m working so hard on it. Seeing these, I can see and feel the love I have started growing for myself!
