Fine Art Studio Portraits: Katie {Vancouver, WA}

I produce my best work when people trust my vision, this commission session was no different.

For these images I used my signature black backdrop, single light setup, and incorporated movement. We also created some portraits on a white backdrop and my go-to blur technique of using a plastic baggie around my lens.

Katie is in the finishing stages of recording her first album and came to me for a Studio Fine Art Portrait Musician session to celebrate that first album and create a possible album cover image for it. This was not my first go at creating images for musicians. I adore creating with other creatives and musicians. You can see more of my work for musicians linked below.

The theme of "eyes closed” was central to her album, and not surprisingly if you’ve followed my work long you’ll know, this is a perfect fit for me! Most of my favorite Fine Art Portrait pieces are ones where the subject is not looking directly at the camera. The album is not yet all finished so I can’t include links to Katie’s music but when it is, I’ll update this post!

During the session, we created images with solid album cover vibes.

How an image is displayed on the wall can dramatically change depending on the surrounding elements. Included in my process working with you, I can help you can narrow down all the details associated with making decisions for what and how to decide to display the art we create together. Options such as framed with or without a mat, how large or small the mat depth should be, and how wide or thin the frame should be based on what feels right for the particular image you’re framing; all of this can feel overwhelming. So overwhelming in fact that it can be paralyzing. I can walk you through all of that and can show you how it will look mocked up on your own wall with an image you provide. Custom framing through my print labs allow for archival certified mats and prints with a variety of frame choices and mat colors of which I can walk you through and suggest the perfect combination for each of your favorites.
